How we make these guides

Homvio helps people keep track of their homes. These guides answer the questions that come up along the way.

Where the information comes from

We start with the people responsible for the facts: government safety and energy agencies such as the CPSC, EPA and ENERGY STAR, fire safety groups such as NFPA, home inspector associations and manufacturers' manuals. Every guide lists its sources at the bottom, so you can check them.

How they're written

We use AI tools to help research and draft these guides. People at Homvio review each one against its sources before it goes up, and we update guides when the guidance changes. If you spot something wrong, tell us and we'll fix it.

What these guides aren't

They're general information, not advice about your particular house. Your equipment's manual comes first. Anything involving gas, your electrical panel, a roof you can't safely reach or a carbon monoxide concern is a job for a licensed professional.

How the guides are paid for

The guides are free to read and they point to Homvio, which is how we hope you'll stick around. We may also show ads on guide pages to help cover the cost. Ads are never shown inside your Homvio account, and we don't use your home records for advertising. Advertisers have no say in what we write. Our Privacy Policy has the details.
